A Real Estate Discussion Blog

Zillow All-Stars and Zillow Local Experts

On Zillow we bring attention to those who contribute the most by awarding Zillow All-Star and Zillow Local Expert badges.

These badges appear on profile pages and can also be posted on your other marketing efforts (such as on your Active Rain blog).  People with these badges are also given better placement in the Professional Directory, with the idea that those that are the most helpful should get the best exposure on the site.

All this on top of the obvious benefits that come with contributing more, which is getting to connect with more potential clients.

What is a Zillow All-Star?   The All-Star badge is given to active Zillow users who share their real estate knowledge and help others by contributing high-quality content.

What is a Zillow Local Expert?
Local Experts are active Zillow users who share their real estate knowledge and help others by contributing high-quality content at a local level.

So make sure your listings are online, upload neighborhood photos and most of all, participate in Zillow Advice- and earn your designations as being a helpful, knowledgable professional on Zillow.

If we sponsor a zip code or community, do we automatically get a badge?

Donna- No, advertising is seperate from this social functionality on the site.  Participation is the only way that you can become an all star or a local expert.  However, you can call yourself whatever you want on your ad in a zip code!

Lee and Pamela -There really is a lot going on, even I can have a hard time keeping up sometimes!  We actually just put a short video together with an overview- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyoIlF3O2H8

Several of my agents are local experts now and they LOVE their badges.  New clients call and email them directly now!  For my agents, a large percentage of their leads this year have come directly from zillow.  I know that some agents dont like zillow because of the zestimate.  But it really doesnt matter what agents think.  Clients LOVE zillow and use it like crazy.  Zillow and Trulia both allow unlimited pictures.  Clients go where the listings offer the most information.  By zillow allowing unlimited photos, text, etc...  is what keeps the clients coming back.  None of my 13 agents have ever, ever, ever received a lead from Realtor.com.  We are talking about over 13 years!

Wow Lori - I am glad to hear that your agents are getting a lot of business off of Zillow.  I actually wrote this post over a year ago, and since then becoming a Local Expert or All Star has become even more valuable.  We now surface the people with these Badges even more on the site, like on homes that AREN"T currently on the market (remember, Zillow is a database of ALL homes) and on local search results.

I'd like to stress that the first important step to this process is creating a free profile on Zillow- and filling it out completely!  This means links to all of your social media, write marketing text about your self and include links in it, and upload a nice photo.

Thanks for the comment.

I've been contributing to ZILLOW ADVICE for 5 years and have a tab on my profile which indicates my contribution yet never received a local area a expert badge or any badge for that matter. Although a recently licensed agent I my office already has the badges and multiple reviews and he isn't even for this area. I asked zillow about it, not wanting to take away anything for that new agent, and they are still trying to figure out what the technical problem is.
