Wasn't a lot of movement in the rankings this month, except for Coldwell Banker who shot up 10 spots in popularity from the previous month.

Is that only for your area?
Thanks for this post! It's helpful to see what websites consumers are looking at the most. Go CB! - Jenn
Interesting, in our area Realtor.com is not even on first page in manyh keywords.
Richard
Thanks for the insight!! Good to see where buyers are going.
These are national numbers.
Interesting numbers, especially Coldwell's increase.
Why isnt my site on that list ?! :)
Now that is interesting data. What is the search term that produces those rankings?
I cannot believe that we have allowed so many of these different sights to out perform our company sights. There is no reason Zillow should be viewed more than Coldwell Banker. In my market lots of the information these other websites are incorrect. Company websites need to rethink how they market on the internet. We need our own website to bring more leads to our company websites.
Richard- The report is based on traffic to the sites. Hitwise tracks usage across over 165 categories and then ranks the popularity of various sites within these categories.
Zane- If it helps, the CA Assn Realtors recently released their annual home buyer survey and they found that the sites the public found most useful were: 33%, an individual Agent's site; 23%, Realtor.com; 22%, an "internet listing of a home that I was interested in"; 11%, Zillow, 8%, a real estate company website, and 4% Yahoo Real Estate. I understand what you are saying about national corp sites, but at the end of the day people are still finding local, agent sites the most valuable. This is just a national list, so it doesn't account for that.
ZipRealty does an amazing job generating traffic to their website, but I imagine their Internet Marketing budget is crazy!
The only numbers that matter are as Zillow's Lloyd Fink pointed out at Inman Connect this summer the company's actual numbers, not comscore/media metrix, not Quantcast, not Alexa, not Compete, not nilsson ratings, not hitwise numbers.
All of these services are guesses based on flawed methodologies.
What really counts even more than the numbers, are what value do these sites bring to their advertisers and realtor customers. That is the true value.
Thanks for checking out and posting this list:)
Sara, great information; congrats on Zillow being at the top.
Here's a general question that I'm sure someone will know; how often does Google re-rank the pages? I moved up a page (moving up a whole page gives you a good idea where I am in general, huh???) recently.
Cindy- I am not a search engine expert, but my guess would be 'constantly'. Congrats though on moving up a whole page! That's pretty major on Google. I am sure blogging has helped you significantly. Make sure you set up a free profile on Zillow and include links to your website and blog, this can help you ranking as well and we give all the the 'google juice' of these links to you as well.
thanks for the info Sara. Where do you get your info? how many hits are you talking per month by the way?
Stephen- This information comes from Hitwise. We subscribe to their service. Although no third party source is completely accurate with numbers (as most just take a sample size) we believe this one to be a good measure because it doesn't report on numbers as much as popularity, so it is a good way to track trends.
Our internal numbers have us at 5.3 unique users for the month of September and 5.4 for August. I have heard Realtor.com around 7 million?
Sara, I have my profile set up in zillow and have links in there back to my website and blog; but quick question...when I click on the links it takes me to the page and I can't get back to Zillow. It doesn't seem to have a "Open in New Window" option. Am I missing something?
Cindy- Glad you got that set up! When you click on a link from a profile, you're right it doesn't open a new window, but rather just goes to the link. You have to hit your back button to get back to Zillow.
Sara,
Nice post. Its good to see some useful content on here !! ;)
Sara, this is fascinating. I had heard that Zip Realty's site was way up there - #4 had been quoted but I have never seen any stats. Relevant content, that's what it's about. Relevant, you rank, not you don't.
Sara, you have a very informative blog and that is why I am stalking it today. Thanks for providing relevant and interesting info.
The info on the CAR Homebuyer's survey is a worthy addition to a listing presentation--especially for boutique brokerages.
