"There is a whole new change in the way people look at luxury. It's moving aways from being in-your-face, conspicuous consumption to how you feel in your environment."
- Pam Danziger, president of Unity Marketing, a consulting firm that studies consumer behavior. She was addressing the trend towards smaller-scale homes and furniture.
I believe there are a lot of factors that influence this statement. Obviously we can't overlook the economy being one. But I think a lot of it has to do with simple Generational differences in priorities and methodologies to approaching life.

That was very interesting. Thanks for the post! I certainly agree that luxury in its forms changes over age and time.

I personally like smaller houses because of property taxes that keep going sky high.
Right - when I was growing up, everyone had to have a formal living room and dining room. Now most people use the living room for an office or a pool table in a great room or dining room. I love that people are using the rooms for a purpose instead of having extra rooms nobody ever really uses. This may be a bit off the topic of 'luxury' but I think fits in to the overall shift in what people are looking for in a home.
